Lofton at Portola

  • San Francisco, California
  • Tri Pointe Homes

Set within San Francisco’s urban fabric, Lofton at Portola offers single-family living in a higher density typology that reinforces the neighborhood block with an internally centralized community space.

Without changing the building exteriors as initially envisioned by the design architect, a complete rework of the original floor plans offered highly livable spaces with a bright and open feeling, despite the compact, narrow footprints and the tall, existing buildings surrounding the project. Given significant slope conditions, this metropolitan infill site navigated the logistics of constructing homes within three to six inches of existing neighbors. Working closely with a lighting consultant to optimize interior lighting, windows were also maximized to capture natural light.

In a modern style of architecture appropriate to San Francisco’s urban context, the units offer a mix of two- and three-story townhome-style condominiums. Each home has enclosed parking for each unit and relatively large, private yards. The project also offers a private, community recreational area with a half-court basketball court and dog station.
