Project completed by Rodriguez Park Architecture and Planning

A 70,000-square-foot building provides facilities for faculty and graduate student offices for the Sociology, Political Sciences, Anthropology and Ethnic Studies departments at the University of California, San Diego. The Social Sciences building has been designed to bridge the design character of two adjacent neighborhoods. Placed at the apex of a ridge at the campus, the offices have commanding views of the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Southern California mountain range to the east. In order to control heat gain and glare, an elaborate window system was utilized to control the sun while allowing for natural ventilation of the entire building (no office is air conditioned). Other spaces provided in this building are conference rooms, laboratories, computer training facilities and administrative facilities for all departments. This building was designed in association with Gwathmey Siegel & Associates, New York.
