Luminosa

  • Palo Alto, California
  • Confidential

Luminosa—the lantern—is the result of a six-year collaboration between homeowners, architect and jurisdiction, to honor the legacy of the site of one owner’s childhood home and the desire to create a modern family home for this new generation. A magnolia tree planted by the owner’s parents made for the centerpiece of the back garden.

Entering the home, a light-filled stair hall with natural light sources from two sides greets and forms the circulation core of the home. A quaint library is the first quiet gem located adjacent to the front door, followed by a stunning atrium anchoring the heart of the plan, and finally arriving at the home’s living hub with Great Room, kitchen and dining room. This living space is also flooded with light from all sides as the open living concept expands to the residence’s outdoor living yard. High ceilings and warm wood tones soften the crisp modern architecture of the home to create the warmth of an inviting and lived in home.

The upstairs offers a view into the upper atrium and leads to the primary suite where every inch of space is efficiently used to create an oasis from the busyness of family life. There are doors to a secluded outdoor deck, that blur the lines of inside and out, and a splendid primary bath that delivers relaxation and rest.

Luminosa connects the activities and functional needs and relationships of each space of the home to the next, with manicured design details to the joy and honor of its homeowners.
